My wife and I can both work remotely if we have reliable internet connectivity. Below is a summary of our connection options.

  • WIFI – If there is available wifi our roof mounted antenna can connect to it and use it as a source of internet. This is usually cost effective but very unreliable both in availability and quality.
  • Cellular – Generally reliable but only where we have good signal. Can be expensive at high data usage. Our cell phones can be wirelessly tethered to the RV to provide internet. The same can be done for the cell service included in our truck. Our roof mounted antenna also has a 4g LTE modem that can provide internet.
    • AT&T unlimited service attached to the truck is $20/month. The truck must be on at least accessory mode so it is not a very convenient option to use all day.
    • T-Mobile pre-paid SIM in roof mounted 4g LTE modem 50-100gb/month for $50
    • AT&T my work phone
    • Mint (T-Mobile) 12gb/month
    • I may add a third phone on Visible (Verizon) for $30-$45 for 5mbps of tethering. This will give me access to all the major cellular providers.
  • Satellite – Where there is no available wifi or cellular signal satellite based internet is your only real option. Starlink has made this an affordable option and with no caps (currently) it is also inexpensive on a $/GB bases compared to some cellular options.
    • Starlink RV plan. Can be turned on and off. $135/month unlimited de-prioritized data.
